Restaurant La Route du Sel

Along the very beautiful road that connects Saumur to Angers, a lovely tuffeau stone house, typical of the region, with a breathtaking view of the Loire that you could almost touch by reaching out your arm … that's already reason enough to make the detour. Obviously, the food is absolutely fantastic.

Seasonal products sourced predominantly from local suppliers. A short menu, letting you treat yourself to three courses for around forty euros …

The service and welcome are warm, friendly and efficient … without being stiff or stuffy. Last but not least: the wine list.

Packed with great wines that are really "clean the way we love them," mostly local, at super reasonable prices … and it's not uncommon to spot the winemakers themselves at the table next door! To put it simply, not eating here when you're in the region would be an absolute mistake … which could only be explained by a possible day when they're closed.

Definitely my favorite spot in this beautiful corner of France.
