With Endoume at its back and its gaze set on Malmousque, Poissonnerie Kennedy is exactly where you want to be to watch the good life stroll along the Corniche, day and night.

A handful of tables planted right on the pavement make prime spots to see and be seen. Just behind them, the kitchen takes centre stage in the lively main dining room. And tucked away at the very back are our favourite tables, on a little terrace offering peace, shade and privacy.

The service is probably the friendliest — and most professional — we’ve experienced in Marseille. Despite the crowds and the bustle, the smiles and warmth never falter. Enough to put a grin on even the grumpiest customer’s face.

That evening, a few small plates arrived first, including some delicious tuna mojama (think dry-cured fish charcuterie) and a delicate smoked tarama. A Japanese-inspired yellowtail crudo and wild clams with Clamato followed, before making way for a whole brill cooked over the barbecue. Complete mastery of the coals, skilful filleting at the table… honestly, superb.

A perfect wine list: don’t change a thing.

It was our last evening in Marseille, and this place brought an already wonderfully food-filled stay to a fitting close.

Booking is essential, an end-of-the-month bank balance less than ideal, and a sociable mood recommended… But leaving this restaurant off your list would definitely be a mistake. Promise.
